SMART HYDRO TURBINES

GTC utilizes “Smart Hydro Power Turbines” for rivers and canals. They allow for the introduction of a base load supply of power, providing a complete renewable energy solution for the best cost-benefit possible. This proprietary technology is standardized and easily scalable. Although qualifying as “green”, these products are positioned as one of the best alternatives for decentralized electrification along rivers.

The Smart Hydro Power Turbine was developed to produce a maximum amount of electrical power using the kinetic energy of flowing water. Since it is powered by kinetic energy instead of potential energy, it is known as a so-called “zero-head” or “in-stream” turbine. As such, no dams and/or head differential are necessary for the operation of this device; the course of a river remains in its natural state and no high investments in infrastructure are required. Because the amount of kinetic energy (velocity) varies from river to river, a greater amount of energy is generated with a higher velocity of water flow.

The Smart Hydro Turbines are unique and proprietary river turbines. They are built in modules and can be integrated together with photovoltaics and WindStax® to provide a completely integrated hybrid system.

Worldwide more than 1.2 billion people do not have access to electricity. Since 80% of these people live in rural areas, they are mostly dependent on diesel generators, which are expensive, harmful to the environment, and can only be used a few hours per day. For this reason, many governments around the world are making it their task to equip the population, especially in remote areas, with access to an electricity supply.

Remote regions are often far removed from the grid and lack adequate infrastructure, potable water, sanitation, communication, and transportation. In these circumstances, social inclusion and economic advancement is hindered or impossible to achieve. The renewable energy system for decentralized electrification brings not only a sustainable Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), but also enables productive use of energy. A standard solar installation can be very economical in regions with high solar radiation all year round.
